Apotex Scorpio Motorsport racer Will Bratt knows he has work to do at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire tomorrow during the 19th and 20th rounds of the Formula Renault UK season, the multiple race winner somewhat disappointed after a difficult qualifying run earlier today.

The 19-year-old Banbury driver, who is an excellent third overall in the championship, hoped to challenge for the front row in both of today’s sessions to end the 2007 campaign on a high. Instead, he had to settle for the sixth fastest time in round 19 qualifying and seventh quickest during the round 20 period.

Lapping with a best time of 1m 10.556 seconds (120.21mph) during the first qualifying run, Will was less comfortable with his car during the second session this afternoon and was only able to manage a lap of 1m 11.076 seconds (119.33mph).

Currently 36 points ahead of his nearest rival in the driver standings, the BRDC Rising Star is well aware of the importance of a brace of strong finishes during tomorrow’s two races and although starting further back then he would like, Will hopes to have a faster car tomorrow and is determined to try and challenge for the podium.

“Qualifying was a struggle today, we had problems with oversteer and understeer and the car just wasn’t fast enough”, commented the Oxford University scholar, “We need to make sure we’re quicker for the races tomorrow. It’s going to be tough from the third and fourth rows of the grid but I really want to end the season with at least one more podium.

“Obviously it looks pretty unlikely from where we are but if I can make a good start to both races and the pace is there, you never know what might happen. We achieved a fourth and a sixth at Thruxton earlier in the year so hopefully we’ll be in the mix tomorrow.”

The final two rounds of the 2007 Formula Renault UK season will take place at Thruxton tomorrow, Sunday, 14th October, with round 19 expected to begin at 12.20 and round 20 scheduled to commence at 17.00. Both races will be screened live on digital satellite and cable channel Setanta Sports 1.
