Bratt
to start on third row for both Donington GP races
Formula Renault UK title contender Will Bratt is to line
up on the third row of the grid for both of tomorrow’s
championship races at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit,
the 19-year-old facing a tough challenge to achieve his
aim of a double podium finish.
Adderbury-based Will, who is receiving additional support
this weekend from Nottingham software company Serif (Europe)
Ltd, headed into this afternoon’s 20-minute qualifying
session brimming with confidence after topping the pre-event
official testing timesheets on Wednesday in his Apotex
Scorpio Motorsport car.
Although posting competitive times during today’s
session, the Oxon sensation did have some problems with
understeer and particularly so through the slower-speed
hairpin turns at Melbourne and Goddards.
Lapping with a best time of 1m 29.499 seconds (161.8kph)
to secure a top six start for Sunday’s morning’s
17th round of the season, consistency enabled the University
of Oxford scholar to also achieve sixth on the grid for
round 18 with his second quickest time, a lap of 1m 29.545
seconds.
Frustrated to have been unable to secure a front row start
for the penultimate pair of races of the 2007 campaign,
Will is nonetheless confident he can mount a bid for podium
results on the renowned Grand Prix configuration of the
Leicestershire venue and is looking forward to competing
in-front of an expected crowd of around 100,000 spectators,
especially as it's Loughborough-based Apotex Scorpio's
home track.
Along with the huge public attendance, Will is also set
to race in-front of scores of guests from new sponsor
Serif (Europe) Ltd and team partner Apotex UK Ltd with
large numbers of corporate clients set to attend tomorrow’s
action to cheer-on the single-seater sensation.
“I’m not happy to be sixth on the grid for
both races but we still have a chance to fight for the
podium from there I think, I’ll be racing as hard
as possible”, said Will, “It’s not great
for our championship hopes but you never know what can
happen. I’m confident we’ll be able to make
a good start and if we can gain a couple of places on
lap one, podiums are possible.
“It’s annoying we haven’t quite had
the pace today, the car just had too much understeer at
Melbourne Hairpin and Goddards. We need to look forward
to Sunday’s races now though and focus on achieving
the maximum possible. It’s an important weekend
for me, Apotex Scorpio and Serif so I’m hopeful
we can take some good results from the event.”
Round 17 of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship is
scheduled to start at 09.00 tomorrow, Sunday, 9th September,
with round 18 expected to begin at approximately 15.55.
