Apotex Scorpio Motorsport ace Will Bratt is confident
he can challenge for a brace of podium results at Snetterton
Circuit in Norfolk tomorrow having qualified on the third
row of the grid for the 13th and 14th rounds of the season
during qualifying today.
During the round 13 session this morning, the 19-year-old
from Adderbury in Oxon posted a quickest lap of 1m 05.110
seconds (107.92mph) to claim sixth position on the grid
for the first of Sunday’s two 18-lap races, frustratingly
a mere seven 100ths of a second shy of row two.
Round 14 qualifying saw Will achieve the fifth best time
for his Loughborough-based team with a lap of 1m 05.262
seconds (107.67mph) and he is now focused on consolidating
his third position in the driver standings with two podium
finishes tomorrow at the 1.95-mile Norfolk track.
Speaking after qualifying, the University of Oxford scholar
said: “I’m fairly happy overall, even though
I wanted to be on the front row I think we can still mount
a strong challenge for podiums tomorrow. It’s going
to be tough but we’ve shown throughout the season
we have the pace to fight at the front and that’s
what I’m aiming to do.
“We did have some understeer in the first session,
especially through the Bomb Hole which lost us about three
10ths of a second, and although it wasn’t as bad
in second qualifying we still couldn’t unlock all
of the pace we should have. I’m looking forward
to the races though, I know our race pace is strong so
we should be in pretty good shape.”
After achieving his first win of the season at Croft in
North Yorkshire during round seven before doubling-up
with victory in round eight, Will went on to make it three
wins on the bounce with success during round nine at Oulton
Park in Cheshire.
Returning to the podium during round 12 at Leicestershire’s
Donington Park, Will’s consistently strong performances
have seen him climb onto the rostrum at each of the last
three race meetings – a feat only matched by the
two drivers ahead of him in the championship standings,
Dean Smith and Duncan Tappy.
Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2007 Formula Renault UK season
will take place tomorrow, Sunday, 29th July, at 11.05
and 16.10 respectively. Both 18-lap encounters will be
screened live on digital satellite and cable subscription
channel Setanta Sports 1.
