Preston racer David Epton will return to track action
at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk this weekend, 28th/29th
July, but rather than driving the Porsche Carrera Cup
GB car he debuted at Donington Park just under a fortnight
ago, he will return to the ranks of Formula Renault UK
with the Apotex Scorpio Motorsport squad.
The 26-year-old, originally from Fleet in Hampshire, will
make his third Formula Renault outing of the year after
receiving an invitation from front-running Apotex Scorpio
Motorsport to compete once again in the team’s second
car as the Loughborough outfit bids to maintain its top
three position in the Formula Renault UK entrant standings.
Although only having two previous race outings at Snetterton
under his belt, the BAE Systems accountant is confident
of scoring well at a circuit which will see the cars approaching
their top speed of 150mph along the Revett Straight.
Speaking ahead of the weekend’s action, David commented:
“It’ll be good to be back with the guys at
Apotex Scorpio this weekend and we’re looking to
achieve a couple of top six results at least to ensure
we gain some big points for the entrant’s championship.
“The team has had a terrific year so far and if
I can help to make sure they remain in the top three I’ll
be happy. I’ve done a fair bit of testing at Snetterton
in single-seaters over the years but not too much racing.
I raced there in Formula Renault in 2003 and 2006 and
that’s it but I’m sure we’ll be able
to hit the ground running in testing on Friday.”
Although driving in Formula Renault this weekend, it certainly
doesn’t mean the end of David’s Porsche Carrera
Cup GB ambitions and he will make a return to the prestigious
category at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent on 18th/19th
August for the 15th and 16th rounds of the championship.
“We are planning to be back with Team Parker Racing
in the Porsche at Brands Hatch next month and have a solid
end to the year ahead of a full campaign in the series
in 2008”, he added, “We then want to get as
much winter testing under our belt as possible in the
Porsche to enable us to make a genuine championship challenge
next year.”
Pre-event testing ahead of rounds 13 and 14 of the Formula
Renault UK Championship will take tomorrow, Friday, 27th
July, at Snetterton with qualifying scheduled for Saturday,
28th July, at 10.35 and 14.40.
On raceday, Sunday, 29th July, round 13 is timetabled
to begin at 11.05 with round 14 expected to follow at
approximately 16.10. Both 18-lap encounters will be screened
live on digital satellite and cable subscription channel
