Will Bratt enjoyed another highly productive outing at
Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk today as the latest official
Formula Renault UK test came to a close; the 18-year-old
firmly among the pace setters having produced the fourth
fastest time of the day.
After impressing during day one at the 1.95-mile venue
yesterday, the Apotex Scorpio Motorsport driver knocked
almost three 10ths of a second off his Wednesday best
with an impressive lap of 1m 05.012 seconds (108.091mph)
this morning.
Unfortunately for the Adderbury teenager and the remainder
of the Formula Renault UK runners, today’s test
was curtailed early when championship officials canned
the second of the day’s two sessions following a
front wing failure for Manor Competition’s Kris
Loane (Kesh, Co. Fermanagh) which resulted in an accident
at Riches Corner.
Although frustrating to miss out on valuable test time,
Will and his fellow competitors obviously realise the
need for such a safety conscious approach and Renault
Sport will now be looking into the causes of Loane’s
front wing breakage ahead of next week’s official
test at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.
Speaking on the unusual day, Will commented: “We’re
very happy indeed with the work we have completed over
the last day and a half and to have ended this morning
inside the top four was pleasing.
“We resolved the problem we had at Rockingham last
week, which affected our pace on the second day, and the
Snetterton times are far more realistic of where we are
in the overall scheme of things. We’ve made more
good progress today and our preparations are certainly
going well ahead of what will be a very competitive year
of racing.”
Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent, the venue for the first
two rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship season,
is scheduled to host the next official pre-season test
on Tuesday, 13th March.
Due to the issue surrounding the front wing breakage which
was the cause of the early conclusion to today’s
action, there is some concern over whether or not the
Brands Hatch test will go ahead as planned. However, Renault
Sport officials are confident there will be no further
disruptions to the pre-season testing programme.
