Top
five start for Bratt in both Donington encounters
Apotex Scorpio Motorsport’s Will Bratt believes
he is in a good position to challenge for podium results
at Donington Park tomorrow during the 11th and 12th rounds
of the Formula Renault UK season, having qualified inside
the top five for both races.
During a brace of highly competitive qualifying sessions
at the 1.96-mile Leicestershire venue earlier today, the
19-year-old looked as though he could be on the front
row for both of Sunday’s 16-lap races and in round
12 qualifying pole position was within his grasp until
some graining on his left-front tyre negated his challenge.
Will’s best lap during the second session, 1m 06.745
seconds (105.56mph), saw him miss out on the top spot
by just 0.160 seconds while his best lap in round 11 qualifying
was 1m 07.023 seconds (105.12mph), three 10ths of a second
shy of the front row.
“We’re disappointed to be on the third row
for both races”, said the Adderbury ace, “But
I think we can still be on the podium and mount a strong
challenge. We struggled a bit with the car in the windy
conditions this morning but it felt much better for the
second session, until we had some problems with graining
on the front-left tyre.
“I was on pole about halfway through and in the
top three heading into the last few minutes. It was always
going to be about the last couple of laps and as everyone
started to go a bit quicker, we weren’t able to
due to the problems with the tyre which meant I had lots
of understeer.”
Will added: “I’m sure we could have been on
pole position again and that’s what we wanted but
we’re all determined to get two good results tomorrow
and if it rains as we expect it to, I think we’ll
be in good shape for a couple of podiums.”
Round 11 of the 2007 Formula Renault UK season will take
place tomorrow, Sunday, 15th July, at 10.40 with round
12 following at approximately 16.10. Both encounters will
be screened live on cable and digital satellite subscription
channel Setanta Sports 1.
